Atlanta History Center: Any Great Change Th exhibition explores the decades-long struggle for women’s suffrage as well as the key groups, their strategies, and their leaders, including Emily C. MacDougald and her daughter, Emily Inman, owner of Swan House. MacDougald was president of the Equal Suffrage Party of Georgia and Inman participated in Atlanta suffrage parades. Commemorating the centennial of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (August 1920) the exhibition Any Great Change documents how women gained the vote and the ways they have used political power over the last century. The exhibition is on display in the galleries located on the second floor of Swan House, fully accessible via chair lift. Center for Civil and Human Rights: Night of Ideas on March 4th Villa Albertine, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs are thrilled to present Night of Ideas Atlanta 2023, More Justice! Defending Rights, Realizing Dreams, on March 4, from 7pm to midnight. In the spirit of the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, Night of Ideas Atlanta 2023 will explore how the historical concept of rights opens the present to new political, cultural, and ethical possibilities which echo Dr. King’s dream. This event will mobilize academia, political activism, journalism, civil society, and the arts to inform and inspire one another to face the challenges of the present and the future. The event will feature a collection of talks, conversations, performances, and exhibits from the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. It will take place simultaneously in 4 spaces: the Glenn Room, the Main Lobby, March on Washington and Shared Accomplishments. Participants include CEO of The King Center and global thought leader Dr. Bernice A. King, philosopher Felwine Sarr, artist Sheila Pree Bright, CEO of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights Jill Savitt, Professor Beverly Guy-Sheftall of Spelman College, activist Terence Lester, human rights attorney Julie F. Kay, French activist organization ACLEFEU, and freestyle rap collective Soul Food Cypher. Night of Ideas is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Registration link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/night-of-ideas-2023-atlanta-tickets-529801920807 High Museum of Art’s: Monir Farmanfarmaian: A Mirror Garden This is the first posthumous exhibition at an American museum for Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian (1922–2019), one of Iran’s most celebrated and revered visual artists, known internationally for her geometric mirror sculptures that combine the mathematical order and beauty of ancient Persian architectural motifs with the forms and patterns of hard-edged, postwar abstraction. Objects on view will include a selection of sculptures, drawings, textiles and collages spanning four decades, from 1976 to 2019. Tellus Science Museum: Tellus is a world-class 120,000 square foot museum located in Cartersville, GA. The museum’s exhibits open minds and ignite a passion for science. Tellus features four main galleries: The Weinman Mineral Gallery, The Fossil Gallery, Science in Motion and The Collins Family My Big Backyard. A 120-seat digital planetarium and an observatory with a state-of-the-art 20-inch telescope is also located at Tellus.
