Events

Taste of Acworth
The Taste of Acworth is an annual event that will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The City of Acworth partners with the Acworth Business Association and JRM Management to host this event on Main Street in Downtown Acworth. This event benefits numerous local schools and charities in our community. Approximately 18,000 visitors taste their way through this collection of delicacies every year and it is expected to evolve tremendously! There are over 150 booths from local restaurants and businesses, plus two live entertainment stages!  Children will have plenty to do with inflatables, quad bungees, and challenging games located in the kid zone.

JamBOOree
Come out to Logan Farm Park (4405 Cherokee Street) for a spooky good time!  This year’s Halloween fun will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the large field in front of the playground.  There will be games, rides, food, music, and lots of fun! Get the whole family dressed up, as there will also be a costume contest for the kids!

Acworth Police Department: Safe-O-Ween
Get ready for a spook-tacular time at our annual Safe-O-Ween event! On October 31st from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m., bring your elementary-aged children to the Acworth Police Department for an afternoon of Halloween fun and free candy!

Acworth Beer and Wine Festival
The annual Acworth Beer & Wine Festival will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Logan Farm Park.  Come out and join us and enjoy over 100 craft beers, wine, live music, great food, and TONS of fun!  This event is for people 21 and older, no kids or pets will be allowed. Tickets include event entry, souvenir cup, unlimited beer and wine samples, and entertainment!  Designated Driver tickets will be available at the gate. Acworth Turkey Chase 2k and 5k
The 15th annual Acworth Turkey Chase will take place on Saturday, November 18th. Enjoy an exhilarating 5K run, jog, or walk through Historic Downtown Acworth and along the shores of beautiful Lake Acworth. The City of Acworth Parks, Recreation, and Community Resource Department presents this annual Thanksgiving tradition to benefit the Tackle Hunger Program! For the past ten years, Turkey Chase runners have helped stock local food pantries during the holiday season! Be sure to save the date for this special event.  Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. All participants must bring a non-perishable food item on the day of the race to receive a race number and t-shirt. www.acworthparksandrecreation.org

Community Classes

BSD Taekwon-Do
This is a traditional Taekwon-Do class for adults.  Students will learn balance, focus, self-control, and grow their confidence. Traditional skills are designed to promote health, lower stress levels, and develop the whole body without the use of weapons. Come kick, punch, and destress with us so that you can become your best. Saturday mornings 8:45 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. at the Acworth Community Center. www.acworthparksandrecreation.org


BUILD Yoga
Join Marlo from Backbends and Brews in this great fitness class! BUILD is a very dynamic class using yoga postures, plyometrics, hand weights, and calisthenics to BUILD strength, flexibility, balance, and endurance. Marlo donates 20% of class fees to charity! Classes are held on Wednesdays from 9:05 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. Monthly and drop-in rates are available. www.acworthparksandrecreation.org


Bend & Breathe Meditation Yin Yoga
Join Marlo for a yoga class that targets your deep connective tissues, like your fascia, ligaments, joints, and bones. It’s slower and more meditative, giving you space to turn inward and tune into both your mind and the physical sensations of your body. Marlo donates 20% of class fees to charity! Zumba
Zumba fitness combines high-energy Latin music and international rhythms with unique and easy to follow moves and combinations that allow participants to dance away their worries. This effective, exhilarating, and calorie-burning program features exotic rhythms such as salsa, merengue, cumbia, samba, and more! You'll not only have a great time, but you'll experience a great workout as well! All fitness and skill levels are welcome. Tuesdays or Thursdays at the Acworth Community Center from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Monthly and drop-in rates are available. www.acworthparksandrecreation.org


Movement & Sound Workshop: Once a month 6:30p.m.-7:40p.m.
Vinyasa yoga flow with sound bath to link movement, breath, and energy.


Women's Self Defense Workshop: October 18 6:00p.m.-7:30p.m.
Learn and perform useful self-defense moves to feel knowledgeable and empowered.


Bricks 4 Kidz (Ages 5-13): Wednesdays 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
Learn, build, and play with LEGO bricks.
 
Beginner Baton Twirling: Tuesdays 6:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
Learn the basics of baton twirling with dance moves and musical routines.

Athletics


Acworth Youth Basketball League
The Acworth Parks, Recreation and Community Resource Department is pleased to announce that registration has begun for the Acworth Youth Basketball League! The league will be offered to participants 5- 14 years of age! Assessments will take place on Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22 with practices beginning the week of November 6 and games beginning Saturday, December 2. All participants are required
to have a birth certificate on file. If you already have a birth certificate on file from a previous season or from another program, you will not need to submit another copy. Please either email a copy to  parksbirthcertificate@acworth.org or bring a copy to our office located at 4361 Cherokee Street, Acworth, GA 30101. Youth Programs

Special Warriors Tae Kwon-Do
Special Warriors Tae Kwon-Do is a great program for the young community with special needs. The traditional skills of Tae Kwon-Do have been adapted to teach focus, balance, hand-eye coordination, and effective self-defense. This class is instructed by Omar Welch who is a third- degree black belt and instructor certified by the United States Tae Kwon-Do Federation. Classes will meet monthly at the Acworth Community Center on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. www.acworthparksandrecreation.org


BSD Tae Kwon-Do
This class is designed to teach young people (ages 6+) balance, hand to eye coordination, and self-control using traditional Tae Kwon-Do exercises. This is a traditional Tae Kwon-Do class. Using proven techniques to teach confidence, self-control, balance and self-defense, certified instructor Omar Welch will help students sharpen their minds and learn to use their hands and feet to protect themselves and loved ones. This class meets at the Acworth Community Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monthly sessions are available. www.acworthparksandrecreation.org.


Little Dragons Tae Kwon-Do
This class is designed to teach young people (ages 4-7) balance, hand to eye coordination, and self-control using traditional Tae Kwon-Do exercises. Parents are welcome to take the class with their children, but it is not required. This class meets at the Acworth Community Center on Saturdays from 10:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Monthly sessions are available. www.acworthparksandrecreation.org.

Active Adult Programs

Senior Warriors Gentle Movements
Senior Warriors is designed for Acworth's amazing Active Adult (55+) population. Join our instructor, Omar Welch, as we use traditional Korean movements to increase balance, mental focus, and movement. The goal is to help students continue to be the best they can be in all things! Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Acworth Community Center www.acworthparksandrecreation.org


Chair Yoga
Learn stretching and strengthening exercises, breathing techniques and much more during this class.  Classes will be at the Acworth Community Center every Tuesday.  Classes will be held at the Acworth Community Center (4361 Cherokee Street Acworth 30101).

Cardio
Elevate your metabolism by moving rhythmically to music. Strengthen and tighten muscles using free weights. Classes will be at the Acworth Community Center every Thursday.  Classes will be held at the Acworth Community Center (4361 Cherokee Street Acworth 30101).

Core Strength

Soles in Motion Walking Club
Get your steps in and join us for a 30-minute walk every Wednesday from 9:00am to 9:30am. Walking location will vary based on weather but will always be held at Logan Farm Park or at the track inside the Community Center. Make sure to wear good walking shoes and bring water.

City of Acworth’s Senior Luncheon
Join us every third Wednesday of the month for the City of Acworth’s Senior Luncheon. Come join us for lunch and Bingo. This program is free to all seniors, but you must RSVP to attend. Reservations will be accepted the week prior to the event.

Time: Lunch is served at noon. After lunch, we will have rounds of bingo with prizes.

Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is now exploring outside of Acworth! We will meet at the Community Center, hop in the van and try new spots in the Metro- Atlanta area. If the location has shopping in the area, we’ll take the time to enjoy it as well (ex: Marietta Square or Downtown Woodstock).

Cards and Cookies
Every other Monday from 2 to 4 PM. Some games and cookies will be provided, but if you have a specific game you would like to play, please bring it. Learn a new game, make a new friend and indulge in a cookie or two! During the months of June through August, Cards and Cookies will be hosted at the Logan Farmhouse.

Crafters and Curlers
Enjoy making a craft with friends once a month! People of all skill level are welcomed to come make something beautiful to take home.

Horizon Yoga:
The Acworth Parks and Recreation Department is offering Yoga Classes for individuals with special needs.   The class focuses on teaching modified yoga postures and breathing
