Did you know that all local Pike's Nurseries are offering Garden Camp this summer? It's true, and it's a blast!
Yesterday, Scarlett and I had the absolute best time attending the West Cobb Anatomy of a Plant event. The presenter, Mickey Gazaway, has been teaching classes for years and she truly is the grandma you've always wanted. Her engaging approach and ability to keep the little ones focused were remarkable.
The class started with Ms. Mickey reading passages from Dr. Seuss' "Oh Say Can You Seed." Then, we had the chance to examine different plants up close, exploring their exact anatomies. It was adorable to see the kids passing around seeds, stems, and leaves, discussing each part. After that, it was time for some arts and crafts.
With glue, scissors, paper, and twine, we got creative and made our own plants, discussing the significance of each part. It was a cute and educational activity with a wonderful takeaway.
The highlight was when each child planted a bean to take home. We love the joy of planting and witnessing growth, so this was a particular favorite. And let's be honest, who doesn't love getting their hands dirty in the soil?
Once the class wrapped up, the kids all gathered at the fountains and explored the store somewhat together. It was heartwarming to watch them interact with their new friends. As a bonus, since we were already at Pike's, it was the perfect opportunity for me to do a little shopping – a win-win for everyone!
I can't recommend these free classes enough. It's crucial for children to learn how plants work and understand that they are the only living things on Earth that can produce their own food. It's equally important for them to learn about where their food comes from. Planting a seed, taking it home, and watching it grow is nothing short of magical.
Make sure to check out Pike's Nurseries for future events and schedule your own planting adventure. Trust me, the memories and learning experiences are truly priceless.
