Worlds of Enchantment - More than Just Fun for the Kids!

Hosted Review

By Melanie Lawlor Cooper, Macaroni Kid Mom Ambassador April 23, 2017

Last night, we saw Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Enchantment. I knew my girls (6 and 12-year-old) would enjoy the ice-skating and the familiar music, but I completely underestimated how much more the evening would mean for our family!

When the lights dimmed, and Mickey and Minnie came out to emcee the show, the entire crowd went wild! Our family sat forward in our seats and clapped loudly, and my youngest grabbed onto my arm and looked up at me with a smile of anticipation. As Donald and Goofy each entered the rink, we yelled their names out in unison.

Andy, from Toy Story, transported us to his world, and he was followed by the rhythmic beat of Sargent and the Green Army Men marching and commanding the show. Our feet tapped to “The Toys are Back in Town,” and the cast of Toy Story came out one by one - including Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, Ham, Slinky Dog, Rex, Lotso, and of course Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear!

My youngest sighed when Ken and Barbie skated onto the ice to “Dreamweaver,” and giggled as Ken put on a fashion show to the songs, “Freak Out,” “Play that Funky Music,” and “Kung Fu Fighting.” And, my eldest got a kick out of the part when Buzz’s settings were changed to Spanish - a welcomed addition to the show!

The lights dimmed, the energy changed, and suddenly we were beneath the water in Ariel’s world from The Little Mermaid! My 6-year-old worried that Prince Eric might not help Ariel get her voice back, as Flounder sang, “Kiss the Girl.” And, when the cast (complete with seahorses and fish,) performed “Under the Sea,” she grabbed my arm and shouted, “Take a video…TAKE A VIDEO!!!” (Disney on Ice encouraged you to take photos, selfies and videos, and post them as #DisneyonIce and #WorldsOfEnchantment on social media.)

After a quick intermission we were wowed, as Mater, from Cars, drove onto the ice. That’s right, DROVE ONTO THE ICE! (Remember, I live in the South!) Doc, Sally, and the infamous Lightning McQueen, also joined in on the driving fun! The brief, high-energy of revving and beeping cars, small-burst pyrotechnics, and the catchy tunes of “Life is a Highway,” and “Route 66,” amazed us all!

As the lights dimmed, and then rose to reveal the town of Arrendelle, I heard my eldest gasp. My youngest grabbed onto my arm as Anna sang, “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” and “First Time in Forever.” And, when Anna and Prince Hans sang, “Love is an Open Door,” my two girls weren’t the only one singing! The dad behind us was belting out the tunes with his twin 3-year-olds. And, the trio knew every single word!

I loved when Olaf sang, “In Summer,” accompanied by dreamy, colorful skating flowers and black and yellow honeybees! However, my favorite moment of the evening was when Elsa sang, “Let it Go,” - my 12-year-old’s favorite. Did I mention that I glanced over at my daughter and saw tears in her eyes? She was so moved by the performance that she had to wipe away tears of absolute joy!

When the show ended, our family rose to our feet and clapped enthusiastically, as did the rest of the crowd. As we made our way out of the venue, I smiled. I will admit, at first I was a bit skeptical about the 7pm show time and getting home so late on a school night. But, this was an amazing experience for our family as a whole; our first Disney on Ice adventure!

My husband thanked me for planning the fun evening, and as we drove home with the kids singing and talking non-stop, I knew the late night was one for the books - an evening none of us would ever forget!
