Pete the Cat Rocks at the Center for Puppetry Arts!

Hosted Review

By Meg Jollett April 11, 2017

"Pete the Cat" opened at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta last week to a packed house. I took my 6 year old to a morning performance during his spring break and we both agreed, Pete rocked.

As a mom to a son who is learning to read, I loved the audience participation encouraged in between acts, where kids helped read the titles of the upcoming stories.  And there were so many great stories to be told! The puppeteers took us through a series of stories, based on the New York Times Best Seller series by James Dean, leading us through a day with Pete. We woke up late with Pete, made new friends with Pete, rode on the bus to school with Pete, ate a crazy big lunch with Pete and built a Robo-Pete. We even celebrated Valentine's Day with Pete and all of his friends before the lights went down for a Pete the Cat sleepover.

My favorite story was "Robo-Pete". It was so much fun watching Pete build a robot to play with. Much like tablets and other electronics, Robo-Pete was not as easy to play with or as much fun as playing with real live friends.  I loved the moral of the story.  It really resonated with me as I'm sure it would with other moms of school-age children. My son's favorite story was when Pete went scuba diving to find a seahorse in "Scuba Pete."  It was a silly story with neat special effects.

After the show, we stayed to create a Pete the Cat hand puppet.  The Create-a-Puppet workshops are included with the price of admission and always a huge hit with the kids!  For me, the workshops are critical. After sitting still for an hour, my little one needs to stand up, stretch and play and create for a bit before making the drive home.

"Pete the Cat" will be playing at the Center for Puppetry Arts through May 28th.  For more information or to purchase tickets, CLICK HERE.
